High-quality teaching and learning is the heartbeat of education. But for all students to benefit, they must have access to a continuum of opportunities and experiences before, during and after school that aligns with their needs, abilities and interests. Using classroom observation data and stakeholder input, we help our clients define what, when, where and how students should learn and the support services they need to make the most of those experiences. Our supports can be targeted— helping educators implement a research-based curriculum and aligned instructional experiences or refine their Response to Intervention approach. They could also be school wide, such as helping schools create productive and sustainable partnerships with community-based organizations. We also support whole communities, for example by helping cities develop systems of out of school time options. Regardless of the starting point, we are committed to helping our clients tap school and community resources to deliver the kind of rigorous and relevant learning experiences that prepare students for success in college, career and citizenship.
A school-wide focus on close reading was energizing to teachers because it led to job-embedded teacher collaboration around practice. Students were also winners. They learned an approach and strategies to comprehend complex text that could transfer from one school level to the next.
