Tamir Harper is a proud product of the School District of Philadelphia, non-profit co-founder, an outspoken advocate for public education, Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholar, and the 61st Eastern Regional Assistant Vice President for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Tamir co-founded UrbEd Inc., a nonprofit that combines community organizing and policy to uplift students, educate communities, and develop coalitions to give students the education they deserve. During his tenure as executive director, Tamir led the organization to disband the state taken-over school board and fundraised hundreds of thousands of dollars. His leadership helped UrbanEd become a prominent student-led education advocacy organization.
Tamir has served as the national policy director for the Student Voice School District of Philadelphia k-12 Counseling Advisory Group and as a Commissioner on the City of Philadelphia Youth Commission. His work has been featured in Good Morning America, TIMES magazine, The Washington Post, PBS NewsHour, and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
